Description For Community Engineer

The Ubuntu Community team at Canonical enables community leaders and participants to get things done in the project, coordinating with Canonical teams and ensuring that community processes are efficient and well run. This is an exciting opportunity for a technically proficient person who is passionate about open source software, Linux, and sustainable community building.

In this role, you will:

  • Support community initiatives with your technical skills and strong organizational skills
  • Engage with volunteer developers in the Ubuntu community
  • Provide content and technical support to keep the community engaged and informed
  • Communicate effectively with developers and software engineers
  • Represent Ubuntu and Canonical at conferences and expos

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with a distributed team
  • Writing high-quality content to promote and support community initiatives
  • Discussing ideas and finding solutions to community problems
  • Working from home with global travel for internal and external events
  • Nurturing community contributions to Ubuntu
  • Engaging with the Ubuntu community through various platforms
  • Representing Ubuntu at speaking engagements

Requirements:

  • Love for technology and working with brilliant people
  • Experience with developer tools and open source projects
  • Clear public record of accomplishments
  • Interest and experience with Ubuntu Linux, DevOps, software development, testing and QA, package management, or container technology
  • Ability to work autonomously and assume full ownership of objectives
  • Flexibility and enjoyment of working with new technology in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working with open source communities
