Description For Principal Embedded Software Engineer (Onsite)

Collins Aerospace, a division of RTX, is seeking a Principal Embedded Software Engineer to join their Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications (NC3) team. This role focuses on developing Very Low Frequency (VLF) solutions for military applications, working within a team of 20+ software engineers. The position requires expertise in embedded systems development, real-time operating systems, and secure software practices.

The role involves designing and developing solutions for aircraft operators to control and monitor mission-critical VLF transmitters. Key responsibilities include working with UML design diagrams, supporting integration and verification, and ensuring compliance with security requirements. The position offers opportunities for technical leadership and mentoring junior engineers.

This is an onsite position in Richardson, TX, requiring U.S. citizenship and an active security clearance. The compensation range is competitive ($101,000 - $203,000) with comprehensive benefits including healthcare, retirement plans, and various family-friendly policies.

The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of experience with a STEM degree or 5+ years with an advanced degree, strong expertise in C/C++ embedded development, and experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering. Responsibilities For Principal Embedded Software Engineer (Onsite)

  • Work collaboratively with software team, systems and hardware engineers to design and develop VLF transmitter control solutions
  • Define software requirements and UML design diagrams within MBSE tool
  • Support integration and verification within automated test framework
  • Enhance simulation elements for new hardware capabilities
  • Drive technical design and software development practices to meet STIGs
  • Support document updates for customer CDRL
  • Provide insight on future scope and process improvements
  • Mentor junior engineers

Requirements For Principal Embedded Software Engineer (Onsite)

  • Degree in STEM and 8 years experience or Advanced Degree with 5 years experience
  • Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS)
  • Experience with C/C++ embedded software development
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
  • Experience with software lifecycle processes
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance
  • U.S. citizenship required
