Description For Associate R&D Imagineer - Mechanical Controls Engineer

Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) is the creative force behind Disney theme parks, resorts, attractions, and cruise ships. As an Associate R&D Imagineer - Mechanical Controls Engineer, you'll be part of the team that uses technology to build new experiences for Guests and new tools for Imagineers and Cast Members.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Translating innovative concepts into tangible prototypes
  • Building and supporting interactive prototypes using cutting-edge controls, fabrication, and simulation tools
  • Providing input on project scope, schedule, and budget
  • Engaging in team brainstorms and troubleshooting
  • Collaborating across diverse cross-functional teams

Required qualifications:

  • Proven ability to efficiently prototype new experiences
  • Experience in system integration
  • Broad understanding of technology and ability to learn new tools quickly
  • Experience with motion capture data, dynamic systems, inverse kinematics, real-time control, and controls theory
  • Experience in robotics and rapid prototyping
  • Strong presentation and writing skills
  • Excellent time management and adaptability

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with hardware prototyping tools
  • Experience in 3D modeling, rigging, or animation
  • Knowledge of high-level modeling languages and low-level embedded code languages
  • Experience with designing compliant linkages and underactuated systems
  • Experience with walking robotic systems and human-robot interaction

Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical, electrical, robotics, systems, or controls engineering, or comparable industry experience.

This position offers a competitive salary range of $102,500 to $137,500 per year, along with a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, paid time off, retirement programs, and tuition assistance.
