Description For Controls Engineer

As a Controls Engineer at Disneyland Resort, you'll work on Show Control aspects of Registered Attractions, focusing on the design, development, installation, and sustainment of show control systems. This role involves programming, editing, and troubleshooting PLC software code used to orchestrate Audio-Visual elements, show action equipment, and themed automation.

You'll be hands-on with real-time integration of sensors, media playback devices, and operator interfaces, while also supporting hardware-level diagnostics and repairs. Working in a fast-paced environment, you'll provide technical leadership in Show Control systems design and sustainment, addressing system-level risks and driving technical projects from concept through implementation.

This 30-month project role focuses on modernizing legacy show control systems, including troubleshooting aging infrastructure, addressing technical obsolescence, and incorporating emerging technologies. You'll guide multidisciplinary teams in resolving system failures, improving reliability, and documenting upgrades, while responding to urgent control and mechanical issues.

The position offers a competitive salary range of $104,600 to $127,800 per year, along with comprehensive benefits including medical, financial, and educational opportunities. Responsibilities For Controls Engineer

  • Support control system projects lifecycle: scoping, design, installation, testing, and training
  • Implement reliability improvement initiatives for attractions
  • Troubleshoot and optimize control systems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams during design and commissioning
  • Monitor control system behavior and performance
  • Coordinate technical tasks related to controls engineering
  • Resolve PLC software and hardware issues
  • Ensure design compliance with applicable standards and codes
  • Stay updated on show control technologies and tools

Requirements For Controls Engineer

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
  • 2+ years experience with control systems in amusement park or industrial/manufacturing environments
  • Understanding of communication protocols: Ethernet, TCP/IP, EtherCAT, CANopen
  • Knowledge of electrical motor controls
  • Basic knowledge of signal processing and motor control principles
  • AutoCAD experience
  • Object-oriented programming knowledge (C/C++)
  • Familiar with IEC 61131-3 PLC programming languages
  • Experience with automation tools including Beckhoff TwinCAT, Rockwell, Alcorn McBride
