Job Description

Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is a global organization of engineers, product developers, designers, technologists, data scientists, and more – all working to build and advance the technological backbone for Disney's media business globally.

As a Lead Android Engineer at Disney, you will be building scalable, elegant solutions for the Android applications on Disney+ and Star+ across a wide array of devices including phones, tablets, and TVs. You'll be part of a highly collaborative group working with cross-functional teams to create world-class streaming applications.

Key aspects of the role:

  • Lead entire projects from start to finish
  • Responsible for critical components including release process and remote configuration management
  • Monitor team health and facilitate career growth amongst team members
  • Build and maintain high-quality code with unit tests and modern libraries
  • Work with streaming video, codecs, and DRM technologies
  • Collaborate across teams to deliver solutions at scale

The position offers competitive compensation with a base salary range of:

  • Glendale: $152,200 to $204,100
  • NYC: $159,500 to $213,900
  • San Francisco: $166,800 to $223,600

You'll be joining Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products team, working on products that reach millions of users globally. The role combines technical leadership with hands-on development, requiring both deep Android expertise and strong leadership capabilities.

Requirements For Lead Software Engineer - Android

Kotlin
Java
  • 7+ years of production experience with Kotlin and the Android SDK
  • Proficiency with Reactive Programming and Dependency Injection
  • Well-versed in different architectural patterns (MVI/MVVM or equivalent)
  • Pristine communication skills who can collaborate well across teams
  • Experience resolving production issues ideally on a large scale
  • Successfully lead a project from start to finish
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent experience
  • Experience with Kotlin, Java, Android SDK, Dependency Injection, Gradle, Databases
