Description For Entry-level Transportation Engineer/Planner

Fehr & Peers, a diverse group passionate about transportation, is seeking an Entry-level Transportation Engineer/Planner in Seattle, Washington. This role offers a unique opportunity to build a strong career foundation through varied experiences in both planning and engineering project work.

The position involves working on a wide range of projects, including transportation impact studies, bicycle and pedestrian planning, multimodal operations assessments, complete streets planning, transit forecasting, and more. You'll have the chance to develop both technical and project management skills, participating in everything from data collection and analysis to client meetings and public outreach.

As you grow in this role, you'll take on increasing responsibilities, from working on multiple projects and using various technical software programs to preparing deliverables and managing small projects. Responsibilities For Entry-level Transportation Engineer/Planner

  • Conduct transportation analysis and write reports
  • Participate in meetings, including preparing presentations and public outreach materials
  • Handle project management responsibilities
  • Participate in professional organizations
  • Conduct site visits and collect field data
  • Explore the Fehr & Peers internal Research and Development program
  • Work on a variety of projects
  • Use several technical software programs
  • Prepare deliverables, including memos, reports, and presentations
  • Attend multiple client meetings
  • Increase responsibility for managing small projects

Requirements For Entry-level Transportation Engineer/Planner

Python
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and proactive approach to communication and getting work done
  • Genuine curiosity for the work and familiarity with the challenges of day-to-day travel within your community
  • Completed bachelor's or in-process master's degree in transportation, civil or electrical engineering, urban and regional planning, or a related major
  • Coursework in transportation, engineering, urban and regional planning, geography, math, statistics, economics, or other related courses (an EIT for engineering candidates is preferred)
  • Experience or exposure to relevant software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, GIS, CAD, traffic operations analysis software, travel demand modeling software)
  • Previous work experience in an office setting related to transportation
  • Experience with technical writing and public speaking through school and/or work experience
  • Interpersonal skills, a desire to collaborate, and a creative approach to problem-solving
  • Organizational skills and the ability to balance priorities between multiple tasks within a defined timeline
