Description For Staff Software Engineer - Electrical Power Systems

GE Vernova, a leader in energy solutions combining GE's power, wind, electrification, and digital businesses, is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for their Electrical Power Systems team. This role represents a unique opportunity to contribute to the future of energy management and sustainability.

The position requires an experienced professional with a Master's degree in Electrical Power Systems Engineering and extensive background in software development. You'll be responsible for designing and implementing critical power system applications, working with cutting-edge technologies in energy management systems (EMS) and dispatcher training simulators (DTS).

As a Staff Engineer, you'll lead design discussions and work independently while contributing to cross-functional teams. The role involves close collaboration with electric utilities, Independent System Operators (ISOs), and Transmission System Operators (TSOs), requiring both technical expertise and customer-facing skills. You'll be implementing complex power system algorithms, including Powerflow, Optimal Powerflow, Contingency Analysis, and Stability Analysis.

The position offers a competitive salary range of $125,600 - $180,550 USD, along with comprehensive benefits including healthcare, 401(k) with company matching, tuition assistance, and paid parental leave. This is a hybrid role based in Bellevue, WA, requiring 3 days per week in office.

  • Design and program small modules or large components
  • Lead design discussions
  • Develop Power Systems Application software
  • Work with Electric Utilities and System Operators on functional specifications
  • Implement new functionalities in EMS and DTS applications

Requirements For Staff Software Engineer - Electrical Power Systems

  • Master's degree in Electrical Power Systems Engineering
  • 7+ years of production-grade software design development in Electrical Power Systems
  • 5+ years experience with C++, Java or related language
  • 5+ years experience with EMS and/or Market System software
  • 4+ years experience with electric utility industry practices
  • Deep knowledge of power system algorithms
  • Experience in data visualization
  • Software architecture design skills
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
