Description For Mainframe Software Engineer I or Above

Global Payments is seeking a Mainframe Software Engineer to join their team in Columbus, GA. This role involves working throughout the software development lifecycle to create, design, code, debug, maintain, test, implement and validate applications using various languages and architectures, with a focus on mainframe technologies.

The position requires expertise in COBOL, IMS, and DB2, working in an Agile/Scrum environment. The engineer will participate in all phases of software development, from design to implementation, working on mission-critical payment processing systems that serve millions of users worldwide.

The role offers an opportunity to work with a dynamic team in a hybrid work model (2-3 days in office), contributing to the development and maintenance of complex financial software systems. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, experience with mainframe technologies, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities For Mainframe Software Engineer I or Above

  • Participate in all phases of the software development life cycle using Agile Scrum methodology
  • Design, create, and deliver moderately complex program specifications
  • Perform analysis, modification, and development of complex code/unit testing
  • Participate in client facing meetings and vendor partnership teams
  • Develop and maintain application documentation
  • Assist with on-the-job training and provide expertise to other software engineers

  • BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business / Management Information Systems or related field
  • 0-2+ years professional experience in coding, designing, developing and analyzing data
  • Knowledge of COBOL, IMS, & DB2
  • Experience with IBM Rational Tools

  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodology
