Description For Data Center Facilities Engineer/Technician, Mechanical

Google is seeking a Data Center Facilities Engineer/Technician to join their Data Center team, which designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and HVAC systems globally. This role focuses on operating, monitoring, and supporting physical facilities conditions in Google's data centers, with emphasis on mechanical systems maintenance and optimization.

The position requires 5 years of Mechanical/HVAC experience in an industrial or commercial environment, along with relevant technical education or equivalent experience. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of data center operations, including experience with chillers, air handling units, CRAC units, power systems, and various mechanical components.

Key responsibilities include ensuring system uptime, conducting root cause analysis, leading commissioning activities, and driving efficiency improvements. The role involves hands-on work with mechanical equipment, requiring the ability to handle materials up to 50 lbs and work in various conditions using appropriate safety equipment.

Responsibilities For Data Center Facilities Engineer/Technician, Mechanical

  • Ensure the uptime, maintenance, operation, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical equipment within the data center environment
  • Conduct root cause analysis for service failures, implement recovery and prevention actions
  • Lead and support the startup, commissioning, and integration of new mechanical equipment and systems
  • Drive continuous improvement in site Water Usage Effectiveness and Power Usage Effectiveness
  • Develop an understanding of the infrastructure design and sequence of operations

Requirements For Data Center Facilities Engineer/Technician, Mechanical

Linux
  • Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5 years of Mechanical/HVAC experience in an industrial or commercial environment
  • Ability to participate in material handling tasks such as lifting, carrying or moving up to 50 lbs (23 kg) of equipment
  • Ability to work non-standard hours and work rotations/shifts
  • Experience with safety rules and regulations associated with operating complex infrastructure
  • Experience in commissioning of HVAC and mechanical distribution systems
  • Experience operating and maintaining mission-critical facilities
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center environment
