Description For Engineering Analyst, Messages Spam and Abuse

Google's Trust and Safety (T&S) team is seeking an Engineering Analyst for the Messages Spam and Abuse team. This role is crucial in protecting Google's users by ensuring online safety and fighting fraud and abuse across various Google products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data analysis, project management, and experience with fraud/abuse investigations.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Analyzing emerging trends and conducting complex data analysis to develop scaled enforcement solutions.
  2. Designing and building anti-abuse protections in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  3. Creating monitoring and alerting dashboards to track abuse levels and system reliability.
  4. Leading projects to prevent abuse of Google's infrastructure and collaborating on requirement development.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) and at least 5 years of experience in data analysis and project management. Strong skills in SQL, Python, and other data analysis tools are essential. The ideal candidate will have 8 years of experience in signal development, data analysis, cybersecurity, or anti-abuse, with specific knowledge in Messaging (xMS/RCS) or SIM/Phone Number fraud and abuse.

This position offers a competitive salary range of $139,000-$207,000, plus bonus, equity, and benefits. It provides an opportunity to work on critical issues of user safety and trust at a global scale, making a significant impact on Google's products and users worldwide.

Responsibilities For Engineering Analyst, Messages Spam and Abuse

  • Analyze emerging trends, conduct complex data analysis, and identify new signals to develop solutions for scaled enforcement
  • Develop an understanding of abuse in messaging, current cross-product workflows, and available intelligence
  • Work with cross-functional teams to design and build anti-abuse protections leveraging reputation at all levels
  • Build monitoring and alerting dashboards to track abuse levels, perform quality checks, and resolve false positives
  • Lead projects to prevent Google's infrastructure from being abused, resulting in losses to users and/or Google

Requirements For Engineering Analyst, Messages Spam and Abuse

Python
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 5 years of experience in data analysis, including identifying trends, generating summary statistics, and drawing insights from quantitative and qualitative data
  • 5 years of experience managing projects and defining project scope, goals, and deliverables
  • Experience with data analysis and database management (e.g., SQL, Python, PLX, etc.)
  • Experience with fraud/abuse investigations, fraud risk management, security and threat analysis in the context of internet, telephony, or communication-related products
  • Experience with one or more languages: SQL, Python, Golang, including knowledge in Messaging (xMS/RCS) or SIM/Phone Number fraud and abuse
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal)
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills with attention to detail
