Google is seeking an ML Software Engineer to join their Kids and Families GenAI team, focusing on building safe and high-quality AI experiences for young users. This role combines cutting-edge machine learning with a crucial focus on user safety and age-appropriate content generation.

The position involves working with various modalities including text, image, video, and audio, developing safety classifiers and quality assessment models. You'll be part of a horizontal team that supports Google-wide product initiatives, ensuring that AI technologies are accessible and safe for children and teenagers.

Key initiatives include developing text and image safety classifiers, autoraters, implementing data-as-a-service solutions, and creating self-serve client integrations. You'll also work on base model steering/safety, introspection, and native safety models for audio/video content.

Responsibilities For ML Software Engineer, GenAI Safety, Kids and Teens

  • Build and improve machine learning models to predict safety, age-appropriateness and quality of AI generated responses across various modalities
  • Collaborate with engineers applying cutting-edge ML techniques for safe AI experiences for kids and teens
  • Analyze Cross-Product Area data, build data pipelines and drive production stability
  • Align work with cross-functional partners working on product, policy, content strategy, and trust and safety
  • Contribute to cross-team collaborations with other engineering teams working on Gen AI products for kids and teens

Requirements For ML Software Engineer, GenAI Safety, Kids and Teens

Python
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree
  • 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms
  • 1 year of experience with core GenAI concepts (LLM, Multi-Modal, Large Vision Models) and experience with text, image, video, or audio generation
  • 1 year of experience with ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, optimization, data processing, debugging)
