Description For Network Operations Engineer

Google is seeking a Network Operations Engineer to join their team in Bengaluru, India. This role is crucial in executing deployment, maintenance, and operations of Google's private data networks worldwide. As part of the Network Team, you'll be responsible for operating Google's network that serves millions of users globally. The position involves working with various teams including Technical Program Managers, Network Engineers, and Field Engineers to ensure network reliability and scalability.

The role requires strong expertise in network operations, particularly in troubleshooting IP and Optical environments, with a focus on DevOps practices. You'll be handling network outages, developing diagnostic workflows, and providing remote support for field operations. The position demands participation in 24/7 global team shift rotations and effective communication with high-level customers.

Responsibilities For Network Operations Engineer

  • Respond to network outages by providing a diagnosis of Layer 1 to Layer 3 network errors and initiate and complete network repairs
  • Develop workflows and systems to diagnose optical Layer 1 and Layer 3 network issues to completion
  • Participate in 24/7 global team shift rotations
  • Provide remote support for field operations related to network repairs
  • Interface with high-level customers communicating repair status and updates as needed

Requirements For Network Operations Engineer

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering or Telecom Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 2 years of experience in telecommunications at carrier scale working with optical network infrastructure
  • Experience in network operations, systematic troubleshooting in IP and Optical environments with focus in DevOps
  • Experience with Unix/Linux administration with scripting/coding
  • Experience in IP Network Operations, including optical networking
  • Experience in TCP/IP and network routing protocols (OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, MPLS) and infrastructure
