Description For Systems Development Engineer, Observability, Public Sector

Google Public Sector is seeking a Systems Development Engineer (SDE) to manage services and systems at scale for air-gapped cloud environments. The role focuses on observability, automation, and developing tools to fix classes of problems. You'll work closely with operations teams, product teams, and Program Managers to balance quick responses, future development, and meeting business needs.

As an SDE, you'll be responsible for designing and implementing large, complex systems, troubleshooting technical issues, and contributing to system maintenance. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an IT-related field (or equivalent experience), 5 years of experience with systems automation and design, and proficiency in languages like Go, Python, Java, or Bash.

Key responsibilities include working with internal teams to maintain production infrastructure, leading system design and implementation, troubleshooting issues, participating in on-call rotations, and contributing to documentation and component development.

The ideal candidate will have experience with Kubernetes, Linux/Linux Kernel, monitoring solutions (e.g., CheckMK, Grafana, Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus), and networking fundamentals. An active US Government TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph is required.
