Description For Transformer R&D Engineer

IONATE is a deep technology start-up, revolutionising grid-scale power flow control with an innovative hardware-software solution. Our London team is looking for a Transformer R&D Engineer to support our work on game-changing green technology and grow within our world-class team.

This role requires knowledge in transformer design and development, involving direct work with our Senior Transformer R&D Engineer. You will play a key role in developing and implementing new transformer designs, taking concepts through to commercial product for customers.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing new distribution transformer concepts
  • Producing technical requirements and specifications
  • Simulating and modeling transformer designs
  • Producing CAD / CAE designs
  • Ensuring designs respect safety, quality, and international standards
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation
  • Supporting our multi-disciplinary team

Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years of proven transformer/R&D experience
  • Sound knowledge of distribution transformers and grid integration
  • Experience with FEM / BEM numerical methods
  • Knowledge of transformer standards (IEC, IEEE/ANSI, Ecodesign)
  • Experience with MATLAB/ ANSYS/ MAGNET or equivalent software
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a cross-functional team

Requirements For Transformer R&D Engineer

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years of proven transformer/R&D experience
  • Sound knowledge of single and three phase oil filled distribution transformers
  • Understanding of transformer grid integration and protection schemes
  • Knowledge of electrical, magnetic field and heat analysis
  • Experience with FEM / BEM numerical methods
  • Knowledge of transformer standards: IEC, IEEE/ANSI, Ecodesign
  • Experience with MATLAB/ ANSYS/ MAGNET or equivalent software
  • Experience in transformer manufacturing, installation, and testing
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work on ambitious projects with clear timelines
