Senior Software Engineer, Backend

Life360 is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend to join their remote-first team in Canada. The role involves building the next evolution of backend services to handle their growing user base, breaking down the monolith in favor of microservices, and working alongside Architecture and Product teams to expand the business.

Key responsibilities include:

• Creating new Spring Java microservices
• Developing API gateways for external integration
• Scaling the system to handle 10+ billion events per day
• Monitoring, improving, and deploying services
• Mentoring other developers
• Building technical specs with Staff engineers
• Handling on-call rotation and addressing live incidents

The ideal candidate should have:

• 6+ years of professional experience in backend and Cloud code
• Proficiency in microservices and horizontally scalable architectures
• Experience with high-scale, low-latency systems
• Knowledge of deploying and maintaining systems, ideally with Kubernetes
• Familiarity with AWS, databases (MySQL), and languages (Java, Python, PHP)
