Description For Network Engineer

Maveris is seeking a full-time, permanent Network Engineer to join their team in support of a large Federal Government customer, specifically the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The role involves providing robust cybersecurity and privacy protections for Veterans, VA information, VA information systems and infrastructure.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning, supporting, and evaluating complex existing network systems
  • Providing technical assistance in network planning, engineering, and architecture
  • Developing technical standards and interface applications
  • Conducting network capacity planning
  • Using network management tools to discover, map, and maintain the network
  • Handling network equipment OS and version upgrades
  • Monitoring and maintaining network interfaces for optimal performance
  • Documenting procedures and keeping network diagrams up to date
  • Leading and directing work of other Network Engineers

The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, project management, or a related field, with 5 years of relevant experience at a large Government agency. Experience with Corelight or Zeek (formerly called Bro) and/or Suricata is required, along with familiarity in implementing cybersecurity regulations.

Responsibilities For Network Engineer

  • Plan, support and evaluate complex existing network systems
  • Provide highly skilled technical assistance in network planning, engineering, and architecture
  • Develop technical standards and interface applications
  • Interface with internal/external customers and vendors to determine system needs
  • Plan and incorporate new network resources and applications
  • Provide monthly metrics for network availability and bandwidth usage
  • Conduct network capacity planning
  • Use network management tools to discover, map and maintain the network
  • Manage network equipment OS and version upgrades
  • Conduct research on new technologies and implementation strategies
  • Monitor and maintain network interfaces for optimal performance
  • Document procedures and keep network diagrams up to date
  • Handle escalated user problems and requests on network issues
  • Work with other groups to resolve network related issues
  • Lead and direct work of other Network Engineers

Requirements For Network Engineer

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, project management, or related field
  • 5 years of relevant experience at a large Government agency similar in size/scope
  • Experience with Corelight or Zeek (formerly called Bro) and/or Suricata
  • Familiarity and experience in the implementation of cyber security regulations
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter that can work under general direction in a highly collaborative, team-based environment
