Description For Cloud Network Engineer

Microsoft Digital (MSD) is seeking a Cloud Network Engineer II to manage the global datacenter network infrastructure for highly secure environments, supporting critical Microsoft services. The role involves daily operations, maintenance, and deployment of new technologies. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Network Design and Implementation:

    • Apply knowledge of networks, industry trends, and field data
    • Create bill of materials and translate high-level design into low-level design
    • Participate in network design and code reviews
  2. Maintain and Operate Networks:

    • Monitor, analyze, debug, and troubleshoot network infrastructure
    • Participate in on-call/DRI duties and create root cause analysis for network incidents
    • Continuous improvement, testing, and validation of network devices
    • Manage network deployments using machine-readable definitions
    • Troubleshoot routing protocols, TCP/UDP/HTTP(s), firewalls, load balancers, and overlay technologies
    • Drive compliance against security objectives
  3. Supporting People and Execution:

    • Collaborate within and across teams, sharing information and resolving conflicts
    • Mentor other engineers and seek mentorship and feedback
    • Share ideas for improving team-oriented behaviors, including DevOps and live site handling skills

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in network engineering, including layer 2 analysis and TCP/IP routing & switching. Experience with scripting (Perl, Python, PowerShell, C#) in both Linux and Windows environments is preferred. The role requires passing a Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire and every two years thereafter.

Requirements For Cloud Network Engineer

Linux

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field
  • Technical experience in network design, development, and automation
  • Experience with layer 2 analysis and troubleshooting TCP/IP routing & switching
  • Ability to pass Microsoft Cloud background check
  • Preferred: Scripting skills (Perl, Python, PowerShell, C#) in both Linux and Windows environments
