Description For Principal Firmware Engineer

Microsoft's Silicon and Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) team is seeking a Principal Firmware Engineer to join their cutting-edge initiative developing custom silicon and SoCs for Azure, specifically focusing on the Microsoft Azure AI Accelerator (MAIA) roadmap. This role combines advanced firmware engineering with AI acceleration, requiring expertise in both hardware and software domains.

The position involves developing sophisticated test applications and diagnostic tools for Microsoft's next-generation Azure AI Accelerator SoC. You'll be working with state-of-the-art technologies in a collaborative environment, focusing on critical areas such as PCIe, Memory, and back-end network workloads. The role requires deep technical expertise in post-silicon validation and system diagnostics.

As a Principal Engineer, you'll be instrumental in designing and implementing performance benchmarking tools, working closely with cross-functional teams across AI Frameworks, Silicon & System Validation, Architecture, and Firmware. The position offers competitive compensation ($130,900 - $251,900 USD) and comprehensive benefits, including industry-leading healthcare and educational resources.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced engineers passionate about working at the intersection of cloud infrastructure and AI acceleration. The role combines technical leadership with hands-on development, requiring both depth in firmware engineering and breadth across system architecture. You'll be part of Microsoft's mission to empower global cloud computing capabilities through custom silicon solutions.

The position offers hybrid work arrangements with up to 50% work from home flexibility and minimal travel requirements (0-25%). You'll be joining a diverse, talented team working on Microsoft's expanding cloud infrastructure, making direct contributions to the company's "Intelligent Cloud" mission.
