OpenAI is seeking a Data Infrastructure Engineer to join their Data Platform team, which is responsible for the foundational data stack powering critical product, research, and analytics workflows. This role offers a competitive salary range of $210K-$405K plus equity and comprehensive benefits. The position is based in San Francisco with a hybrid work model (3 days in office).
The team operates some of the largest Spark compute fleets in production, designs and builds data lakes and metadata systems on Iceberg and Delta, and supports ML feature engineering tooling. You'll be working on scaling and hardening big data compute and storage platforms, building high-throughput streaming systems, and enabling secure data access for ML and analytics.
The ideal candidate should have 4+ years of experience in data infrastructure engineering or infrastructure engineering with a strong interest in data. You'll need expertise in technologies like Spark, Kafka, Flink, Airflow, and Terraform, along with experience in debugging large-scale distributed systems.
