OpenAI is seeking an Uber Tech Lead, Software Engineer for their Human Data team, a core part of the Research organization. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead the development of custom data solutions driving groundbreaking AI research.
As the technical lead, you'll be at the forefront of enhancing and evaluating flagship models like ChatGPT, GPT-4o, and Sora. You'll collaborate with product managers, researchers, and engineers to create innovative platforms and products around emerging research capabilities and unsolved customer needs.
Your responsibilities will include architecting and building the tooling, infrastructure, and products that power OpenAI's data collection and management platform. This involves collecting crucial training signals from products like ChatGPT, Dall-E, and Sora, as well as designing key interfaces for AI human labelers.
The role requires a blend of technical expertise and leadership skills. You'll be expected to iterate rapidly, improving user and developer experiences while advancing scalability, performance, observability, and security. Your understanding of training and eval data needs across OpenAI will be crucial in developing the technical roadmap and prioritization.
As a mentor to other senior engineers and technical leads, you'll guide them in building scalable systems, creating optimal tools, and managing prioritization and strategy. Your leadership will be key in driving high-leverage projects, ensuring team engagement, and resolving technical and organizational blockers.

This role offers a competitive salary range of $385K – $465K, along with generous equity and benefits. It's based in San Francisco, with a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week.
