Now is a great time to join Optery. We 3x-ed revenue last year, our product was awarded "Editors' Choice" by PCMag as the most outstanding in the personal data removal category for the 4th year in a row (2022 - 2025), we received the Cybersecurity Excellence Awards for Attack Surface Management, Digital Footprint Management, and Employee Privacy Protection for the 2nd year in a row (2024 - 2025), and we're changing the game in the world of consumer data privacy.
We're seeking a Senior Backend Engineer who thrives in fast-paced, early-stage environments. You'll work directly with the company's founders and help shape both the product and technical direction. This is a high-impact, high-ownership role ideal for someone who enjoys building across the stack and shipping features quickly.
Optery is automated opt out software serving individuals, families and businesses. Our mission is to empower people to take control of their personal data, with a vision for a safer world through data privacy. We're the first company to offer a free report showing where personal information is posted by data brokers online, and the first to offer IT teams a self-service platform for removing employee information from the web.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about building consumer data privacy software with experience in Python/Django, REST APIs, async processing, databases (SQL/NoSQL), security best practices, and cloud infrastructure. You'll work on designing scalable components, implementing integrations, and ensuring high performance and quality through testing.
We value clear communication, empathy for customers, and a collaborative mindset. As a fully remote company, we embrace asynchronous work while maintaining overlap with US time zones for collaboration. The role offers competitive compensation, benefits including PTO and home office setup, and the opportunity to work with world-class investors and shape the future of consumer privacy protection.
Optery has completed SOC 2 Type II certification and raised $10M+ in seed funding from Y Combinator and other top investors. We're headquartered in San Francisco but operate globally, serving hundreds of thousands of users who rely on us to keep their personal information off the internet and prevent threats like phishing, identity theft, and harassment.
