Description For Software Research & Development Intern - Summer 2025

Join Pixar Animation Studios' Software R&D Department for an exciting Summer 2025 internship opportunity in Emeryville, CA. As a Software R&D Intern, you'll be part of the team that powers one of the world's most renowned animation studios. You'll work on cutting-edge tools and technologies that enable Pixar's artists to create award-winning animated films.

The role offers two distinct tracks: Foundation Team and Research Team. On the Foundation Team, you'll support artists across the production pipeline, building tools for content creation and increasing productivity. You'll work with technologies like Python, JavaScript, and Linux while developing solutions for production management, media systems, and asset management.

The Research Team focuses on advancing computer graphics technology, working on challenging problems in machine learning, rendering, physical simulation, and geometry processing. This track is particularly suited for MS/PhD students interested in pushing the boundaries of computer graphics technology.

You'll be working in a collaborative environment alongside talented engineers and artists, contributing to the tools and systems that make Pixar's storytelling possible. The internship offers hands-on experience with professional software development practices, exposure to animation production workflows, and the opportunity to learn from industry leaders.

This is a full-time, paid internship ($30/hour) running for 12 weeks from June to August 2025. You'll be based at Pixar's creative campus in Emeryville, where you'll be immersed in the studio's innovative and collaborative culture.   • Experience in software engineering with relevant language/platform
  • Experience working in UNIX/Linux environment
  • Cross-platform experience using Macintosh and Linux systems
  • Strong software engineering and testing skills
  • Excellent scripting language skills including Python & Shell
  • Must be able to work full-time on-site for 12 weeks (6/2/25 - 8/22/25)
  • Must possess legal right to work in the United States
