Description For Principal Stage Fluids Engineer

At Relativity Space, we are building the next great commercial launch company with Terran R and aim to become America's leading force in additive manufacturing innovation. Our vision is to create humanity's industrial base on Mars, starting with designing, building, and flying rockets to deliver customer payloads to orbit here on Earth.

As a Principal Stage Fluids Engineer, you will be responsible for the mechanical and structural implementation of stage fluid systems for our Terran R launch vehicle. You will lead the team in exploring new methods and design approaches, with end-to-end ownership of your designs. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting fluids routing and design trade studies
  • Designing fluids hardware mounting structures
  • Performing mechanical verification analysis using hand calculations and FEA
  • Designing mounting hardware for fluid system components and routing
  • Incorporating 3D printing methods in fluid system mechanical design
  • Applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in mechanical or an equivalent engineering discipline
  • 10+ years of mechanical design experience
  • Proficiency with commercial CAD packages (NX, CREO, Solidworks)
  • Experience with GD&T
  • Project ownership experience
  • Manufacturing experience or experience interacting with vendors
  • Experience with fluid system components and system testing
  • Experience with FEA tools for structural margin analysis
