Description For Quality Automation Engineer - Telematics

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness IoT data to improve their operations. We're looking for a self-driven, experienced Quality Automation Engineer for our Telematics Engineering team who has a real passion for quality and strives to innovate and try new things, incorporating continuous improvement of testing methods.

In this role, you'll be part of a development team working on our Telematics products, which process real-time signals from IoT devices deployed in vehicles to help customers make their vehicle fleets safer, greener, and more efficient. You'll collaborate with engineering and product teams, develop and execute test plans, create automated test fixtures, and contribute to improving our quality processes.

Key responsibilities include understanding product architecture, developing test plans, performing root cause analysis, executing manual and automated tests, and creating high-quality test fixtures and frameworks. You'll also play a crucial role in shifting from manual to automated testing environments.

The ideal candidate should have 4+ years of experience in quality engineering, strong skills in test automation, proficiency in TypeScript, Python, and SQL, and excellent troubleshooting abilities. Experience in the automotive or transportation industry and knowledge of GoLang would be advantageous.

Responsibilities For Quality Automation Engineer - Telematics

  • Be a part of a development team, quickly understand the product, the architecture and come up with a plan to test/validate functionality, and identify and target weaknesses
  • Be a part of the development process, collaborating with the engineering and product teams to discover details of proposed functionality, spotting gaps/conflicts and understanding upcoming work
  • Rapidly diagnose issues and perform root cause analysis with backend, mobile, and full-stack developers
  • Execute manual and automated test plans across the backend, mobile and web
  • Develop test fixtures using a hands-on approach to shift from a manual end-to-end testing environment to an automated one
  • Design, write and deliver high-quality test fixtures, frameworks and build tools to production standards as part of team sprints
  • Document, structure and maintain automated test cases and code used for test execution
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara's cultural principles as we scale globally and across new offices

Requirements For Quality Automation Engineer - Telematics

TypeScript
Python
  • 4+ years of experience in a quality engineering function
  • 2+ years of experience in developing test suites using QA automation tools like Selenium, Playwright, Cypress etc.
  • 1+ year of experience in developing/improving test tooling and frameworks
  • Proficiency with programming and querying languages: TypeScript, Python, SQL
  • Proven abilities for effective troubleshooting, debugging and performing root cause analysis
  • Strong communication skills, comfortable working with distributed teams from diverse backgrounds
