Samsung Electronics America is seeking a Staff Engineer I for System Structure Design to join their team in Plano, TX. This role sits at the intersection of customer requirements and system development, focusing on 4G/5G wireless technologies.

The position involves analyzing and translating customer requirements into system specifications, working extensively with wireless protocols and network architectures. You'll be responsible for performing detailed analysis of 4G/5G Wireless Call Protocols, troubleshooting issues, and providing expert technical support in pre-sales processes.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional with deep knowledge of wireless telecommunications. The role requires a strong background in system engineering activities, including feature requirements identification, documentation, optimization, and problem-solving. You'll work with cutting-edge technologies like Hybrid Beamforming, Massive MIMO, and LTE-NR interworking.

The ideal candidate will have 12 years of progressive experience in 4G/5G system development, with expertise in wireless systems architecture, protocol analysis, and 3GPP standards. You'll collaborate with various teams, including sales, support organizations, and Samsung HQ, to achieve successful product roll-outs and developments.

Responsibilities For Staff Engineer I, System Structure Design

  • Analyze customer requirements and convert them into system requirements
  • Capture detailed design for the development team
  • Assist in product and feature performance analysis
  • Perform detailed analysis of 4G/5G Wireless Call Protocols
  • Provide expert technical support in pre-sales process
  • Create technical and commercial solutions
  • Translate technical design considerations between Samsung sales team and carriers' network business
  • Work with mobile wireless standards and protocols
  • Perform resource allocation, mobility management, and QoS in wireless networks
  • Define and analyze wireless network performance
  • Design and test network elements as defined in 3GPP architecture

Requirements For Staff Engineer I, System Structure Design

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Information Systems Engineering or related field
  • 12 years of progressive experience in 4G/5G system development
  • Experience with 4G/5G concepts including Hybrid Beamforming, Massive MIMO, LTE-NR interworking & co-existence
  • Experience with system engineering activities
  • Experience with 4G/5G air interface and call processing technologies
  • Experience with Wireless systems focusing on PHY, MAC, RLC, RRC and PDCP layers
  • Experience with protocol analyzers and test tools (XCAL, QXDM, Wireshark)
  • Experience with 3GPP Rel-15/16 activities
  • 20% domestic travel required
