Samsung Austin Research and Development Center (SARC) and Advanced Computing Lab (ACL) are seeking a Sr Staff Physical Design PPA Engineer to join their team of excellence in Intellectual Property (IP) development. This role focuses on developing and innovating design recipes for improving Power/Performance/Area metrics used in Physical Design execution for premium IPs targeting high-performance computing devices across mobile, automotive, and custom market segments.
The position requires an experienced professional who will lead PPA initiatives, drive methodology improvements, and handle complex physical design implementation from synthesis to signoff. The role involves working with cutting-edge technology, including the Xclipse GPU - Samsung's first mobile GPU with ray tracing technology for Galaxy smartphones.

Responsibilities For Sr. Staff Physical Design PPA Engineer
- Lead PPA (Power/Performance/Area) initiatives by identifying opportunities and tracking progress
- Drive flows and methodologies improvements for Physical Design Implementation automation
- Handle synthesis to place and route of IP blocks through signoff flows
- Interact with RTL counterparts and SOC teams to resolve design issues
- Ensure designs meet PPA targets and signoff requirements
- Implement power grid and area/congestion optimization
Requirements For Sr. Staff Physical Design PPA Engineer
- 10+ years of experience with Bachelor's degree or 8+ with Master's or 6+ with PhD in Computer Science/Computer Engineering
- Solid understanding of SOC/ASIC design flow
- Experience with synthesis, block, and full chip implementation
- Proficient scripting/programming skills in TCL, Perl, Shell, and/or Python
- Knowledge of Electrical Engineering fundamentals
- Strong communication skills and team collaboration abilities
- Experience with 7nm Finfet or smaller process nodes (preferred)
- Hands-on experience with clock tree synthesis (preferred)
- Sign-off experience with reliability and timing (preferred)
