Description For Robotics Software Engineer (Intern)

Join Simbe Robotics as a Robotics Software Engineer Intern and dive into the exciting world of autonomous robots! Over a 3-month period, you'll work with our robot software engineering team on the code that drives our Tally™ autonomous robots. Experience the fast-paced Silicon Valley startup environment while contributing to various aspects of Tally, including navigation, perception, autonomous behaviors, hardware drivers, cloud integration, and infrastructure management.

You'll gain hands-on experience with the Robot Operating System (ROS) framework, setting you up for success in the robotics industry. This internship offers valuable experience to help shape you into a professional software engineer, preparing you for immediate contribution to any ROS-based robotics company upon graduation.

Work on at least one major project during your internship, which you'll present to the entire organization at the program's end. Exceptional interns may receive full-time position offers upon graduation, subject to availability.

Key responsibilities include maintaining and extending the Tally software stack, improving autonomy and navigation, testing new hardware components, and evaluating third-party ROS packages. We're looking for candidates with strong coding skills in C++ or Python, a basic understanding of ROS, and experience with Linux environments.

Responsibilities For Robotics Software Engineer (Intern)

  • Maintaining and extending the Tally software stack
  • Improving Tally's autonomy, navigation, perception, and human-robot interaction (HRI) behaviors
  • Testing and integrating new hardware components including new sensors
  • Evaluating third-party ROS packages for integration into our stack

Requirements For Robotics Software Engineer (Intern)

Python
Linux
  • Currently in university for BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or related field
  • Adept in C++ or Python programming
  • Basic understanding of the Robot Operating System (ROS)
  • Rudimentary understanding of Git or other source control system
  • Rudimentary experience working with Ubuntu or other Linux distributions
