Description For Fire Protection Engineer

SpaceX is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to support their Starlink project in Redmond, WA. Starlink is the world's largest satellite constellation, providing fast, reliable internet to over 3 million users worldwide. The fire protection engineer will provide engineering design support and subject matter expertise in areas such as fire protection, life safety, building and fire codes, fire hazard and risk assessment, fire detection, alarm and sprinkler system design, and more.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting engineering design, analysis, calculations, and specifications for facility fire and life safety systems
  • Developing building and fire code compliance documents
  • Performing hazardous material analysis for code compliance
  • Supporting facility construction teams and commissioning activities
  • Conducting fire/life safety code reviews and analyses
  • Preparing technical reports and presentations

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • 2+ years of experience in fire protection system design/construction or consulting
  • Working knowledge of Building & Fire Codes and NFPA Codes & Standards

Preferred qualifications include a degree in fire protection engineering, Professional Engineer License, NICET certification, and proficiency in Autodesk Revit.

Responsibilities For Fire Protection Engineer

  • Support engineering design, analysis, calculations, and specifications for facility fire and life safety systems
  • Develop building and fire code compliance documents and fire life safety designs for SpaceX facilities
  • Develop AM&M (Alternate Means & Methods) to local AHJ to help with performance-based design criteria to meet the intent of the code
  • Perform hazardous material analysis for code compliance purposes
  • Support facility construction teams to develop field solutions
  • Support commissioning activities during pre-test and AHJ testing phases for launch site facility builds
  • Conduct fire/life safety code reviews and analyses
  • Prepare and present technical reports and presentations
  • Review and comment on shop drawing design packages developed by contractors

Requirements For Fire Protection Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • 2+ years of experience in the design and construction of fire protection systems and/or fire protection consulting
  • Working knowledge of Building & Fire Codes and NFPA Codes & Standards
