Description For Electrical Engineer, Inverter

Tesla's Drive Inverter team is at the forefront of electric vehicle innovation, designing power electronics that are crucial for Tesla's high-performance electric vehicles. As an Electrical Engineer on the Drive Inverter team, you'll be responsible for developing component designs for the industry's highest production volume traction inverters. The role combines hardware design, embedded systems, and power electronics expertise to deliver hundreds of kilowatts of power from the battery to the motor efficiently and reliably.

Responsibilities For Electrical Engineer, Inverter

  • End-to-end ownership of new inverter PCBA designs including specifications, architecture, schematic capture, PCB layout, board bring up, validation, and overseeing reliability and functional testing
  • Collaboration with cross functional teams to see products through high volume manufacturing
  • Design and execute high voltage and high current validation of new inverter designs
  • Debug complex component interactions at the vehicle level

Requirements For Electrical Engineer, Inverter

Python
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Digital and analog circuit design, including high voltage circuits or power supply design
  • Printed circuit board design (Altium) and initial bring-up: debugging, soldering, wiring, mechanical assembly
  • Familiarity with embedded firmware, microcontrollers and their peripherals, python scripting
  • Familiarity with lab equipment including oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies
  • Experience with power semiconductors (MOSFETs, IGBTs)
  • Knowledge of electric motors, thermal design, and/or mechanical design
  • Automotive networking (CAN, LIN, Ethernet)
  • Basic control theory, including importance of sensor bandwidths, filtering
  • Automation of lab equipment (GPIB/SCPI/VISA)
