Description For Engineering Technician, Semi Truck, Sensors

Tesla is seeking an Engineering Technician for their Semi Truck Sensors team in Palo Alto, California. This role is part of the Low Voltage Hardware Validation Test team and focuses on supporting Semi test development, execution, documentation, and root cause analysis. The ideal candidate will work alongside Test/Reliability/Design Engineers to validate displays, sensors, and cameras for the Semi program through mechanical and electrical testing.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing, building, and dismantling static fixtures made of T-Slotted aluminum and sometimes solid Aluminum or magnesium
  • Running and documenting electrical, ingress, and visual checks/data to validate displays, sensors, and cameras operation
  • Creating and modifying Python test scripts that interact with DAQs and Power supplies
  • Custom harness building for signal and power cables
  • Performing environmental stress screening (ESS), highly accelerated life testing (HALT), and highly accelerated stress screening (HASS)
  • Operating and maintaining environmental chambers for thermal, humidity, and vibration testing
  • Analyzing test data and identifying trends to predict potential failures
  • Collaborating with engineers to implement design improvements based on reliability test results

The ideal candidate should have experience in custom harness building, managing multiple test priorities, and conducting various types of environmental and stress testing. Preferred skills include experience with SolidWorks, Catia, Altium, Linux, PyCharm, Arduino, DAQs, and power supplies, as well as familiarity with various sensors, CAN Bus communication, and fabrication tools.

  • Support Semi test development, execution, documentation, and root cause analysis
