Description For Sr. Software Engineer, Full Stack, Vehicle Engineering

Tesla's Materials Engineering Department is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer for Full Stack Vehicle Engineering. This role is crucial in managing and developing systems that power materials data for engineering and R&D efforts. You'll be responsible for maintaining material data systems, automating processes, and integrating new databases with existing software. Key responsibilities include ensuring minimal downtime, automating monitoring and alerting, designing new integrations, and solving problems to facilitate R&D practices.

The ideal candidate will have strong programming skills in both scripting (e.g., Python) and strongly typed languages (e.g., C#, Java, Golang), experience with front-end frameworks, and a solid understanding of DevOps practices. Knowledge of CAD systems and materials testing is preferred.

Responsibilities For Sr. Software Engineer, Full Stack, Vehicle Engineering

  • Ensure material data systems have minimal downtime and no disruptions to ongoing engineering activities
  • Automate monitoring and alerting for data inconsistencies and system faults
  • Design and integrate new databases and data sources with existing design software systems
  • Solve problems that facilitate materials department R&D and testing practices
  • Manage multiple systems powering day-to-day engineering activities and R&D efforts
  • Build out or incorporate new systems and data sources
  • Automate material testing and certification data

Requirements For Sr. Software Engineer, Full Stack, Vehicle Engineering

  • Demonstrated competency in at least one scripting language and data manipulation libraries (e.g., Python with numpy, pandas, and sqlalchemy)
  • Hands-on experience with a strongly typed language common in backend web development (e.g., C#, Java, or Golang)
  • Working knowledge of computer science and internet systems fundamentals
  • Experience with front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Typescript, or Next.js)
  • UNIX skills (e.g., shell and PowerShell)
  • Proven experience working with Domain Driven Design software patterns
  • Hands-on experience with DevOps and GitOps (e.g., GitHub Actions, Docker, ArgoCD, or Kubernetes)
  • Willingness to participate in a 24-hour on-call rotation
  • Experience with a CAD system and simulation tools is preferred
  • Prior knowledge of materials testing, analysis, or a field of physics is preferred
