Description For Lead Software Engineer–Developer

The Boeing Company is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join their Enterprise Software Engineering team in North Charleston, South Carolina. This role is part of Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T), where you'll collaborate with world-class scientists, researchers, and engineers to innovate on advanced training, production analytics, assembly automation, and manufacturing technologies.

As a Lead Software Engineer, you'll be responsible for overseeing the complete software development lifecycle, from design to maintenance, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. The position requires expertise in multiple programming languages including Python, Java, and JavaScript, with a strong background in software architecture and team leadership.

The role offers an exciting opportunity to work on next-generation software capabilities for aerospace and autonomy platforms, solving Boeing's most challenging problems across Commercial Airplanes, Defense Space & Security, and Global Services businesses. You'll lead the development of software processes, oversee architecture decisions, and guide technical implementation across teams.

Responsibilities For Lead Software Engineer–Developer

  • Oversee the design, development, test, and maintenance of non-embedded software
  • Oversee development, documentation and maintenance of architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs
  • Oversee research and implementation of current and emerging technologies
  • Lead debugging and resolution of software issues
  • Lead development of software processes, tools and key performance metrics
  • Review planning, execution and documentation of software projects
  • Consult on software domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations

Requirements For Lead Software Engineer–Developer

  • 10+ years of experience designing and developing software
  • 8+ years of experience with programming languages such as Python, Java, C/C++, C# and JavaScript
  • 5+ years of experience with software development lifecycle (SDLC)

  • Must be a U.S. Person as defined by export control compliance requirements
