Description For Engineering Manager II - Trusted Identity

Uber's Trusted Identity team is seeking an Engineering Manager II to lead their identity verification platform initiatives. This role is based in Uber's first Tech Center in LATAM, operating as part of the global Engineering team. The position focuses on building and maintaining identity platform solutions that ensure safety across Uber's ecosystem.

The role involves leading a team of Software Engineers working on critical identity verification systems used by all Uber users globally. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for providing technical leadership in security domains, including authentication, authorization, and cryptography. They will ensure system reliability and scalability while addressing security concerns promptly.

This position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse range of stakeholders, from Product and Design teams to Security, Compliance, and Legal departments. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering leadership, experience with distributed systems, and a track record of building and maintaining high-performing teams.

The role requires a hybrid work arrangement, with employees expected to spend at least half of their work time in the assigned office in Sao Paulo. Responsibilities For Engineering Manager II - Trusted Identity

  • Lead a team of Software Engineers and provide technical leadership in security domain
  • Ensure systems reliability, scalability, and security issue management
  • Mentor engineers and build strong quality culture
  • Work with cross-functional partners across Security, Safety, Compliance, Risk, Privacy, Legal, Ops and Marketing
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, UX Researcher and Mobile/Web engineers

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering field (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology)
  • Solid experience leading engineering teams
  • Experience working with multi-functional, globally distributed teams
  • Ability to collaborate with PMs, designers, data scientists and infrastructure teams
  • Experience in career mentoring, development, and handling performance & conflicts
  • Track record of managing, recruiting, and retaining engineering talent
  • Knowledge of large-scale distributed systems, SQL/NoSQL storage, Kafka, logging, monitoring, and performance tuning
