Description For Staff Software Developer

Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) is seeking a Staff Software Developer to join their Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team. This role sits at the intersection of platform engineering and service reliability, focusing on building robust systems that ensure WBD's streaming services remain operational and performant.

The position offers a unique opportunity to work on systems that power major streaming platforms like Max (formerly HBO Max), which serves millions of users across 46 countries. As a Staff Software Developer, you'll be responsible for designing and implementing prevention systems and processes, working proactively rather than reactively to ensure service reliability.

The role requires both technical excellence and leadership capabilities. You'll be expected to turn the engineering community's needs into thoughtful designs and architectures while serving as a senior technical resource for other developers. Key focus areas include scalable system design, performance engineering, and resiliency testing.

Your responsibilities will span from hands-on development to technical leadership, including:

  • Designing and building high-performance, stable systems that ship to production
  • Contributing to the team's SRE strategy and technical decision-making
  • Mentoring senior engineers and promoting best practices
  • Conducting system capacity planning and optimization
  • Troubleshooting complex production issues
  • Participating in code reviews and architectural discussions

The ideal candidate brings 8+ years of experience with software development and platform teams, deep expertise in cloud-native architectures, and a strong background in reliability engineering. You should be comfortable working with technologies like Kubernetes, AWS services, CI/CD tools, and various observability solutions.

WBD offers a collaborative environment where creativity meets technology, providing opportunities to work on cutting-edge streaming platforms that reach global audiences. The company values diversity and inclusion, offering equal opportunities and supporting career growth through their fast-track development programs.

This hybrid role is based in Kanata, offering the flexibility of remote work while maintaining in-person collaboration. Join WBD to be part of a team that's shaping the future of streaming entertainment while building robust, scalable systems that millions depend on.
