Senior Software Engineer, Perception, VLM Foundation

Waymo, an industry leader in autonomous driving technology, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their Perception team, specifically focusing on Vision Language Models (VLM) Foundation. The role is part of the Semantics Foundation, a model platform team within Waymo Perception, where you'll be building model platforms for other problem domain teams to address production issues. Your focus will be on VLM for driving, encompassing model pre-training, fine-tuning, and post-training for Waymo applications.

As a Senior Software Engineer in this position, you'll be working with cutting-edge technology in autonomous driving, tackling complex challenges in computer vision and machine learning. You'll be responsible for developing evaluation frameworks for vision language models and large language models, exploring how to leverage their world knowledge and reasoning capabilities to improve various driving tasks.

The position offers a unique blend of research and practical application, as you'll be working on different phases of model development - from data mining to training and evaluation - and ultimately deploying these models on autonomous vehicles.
