Pros
  • Chill coworkers and most people who are actually pretty smart and decent to work with
  • Unlimited AI usage
  • Remote
Cons

Abnormal has to be one of the worst places that I've worked in terms of pay and engineering practices.

  • Low base salary
  • Worthless RSUs that are dual trigger, so even if you spend x amount of time there, your stock doesn't vest without a liquidity event, and the company hasn't had a liquidity event.
  • AI slop everywhere
  • Constant outages which result in "PCCMRs," which are a checklist before your service or changes can go to production, but no one actually reads them and outages happen anyways.
  • Bugs and weak security. For a security product, there is a lack of good security practices and a high amount of bugs.
Advice to Management

You don't pay well enough to retain your best engineers or attract good new ones.
