There are huge salary disparities between long-term employees and new hires, which are not based on skills but solely on qualifications: a shame for a company that claims to be meritocratic.
Advice: negotiate your salary well upon hiring. As raises are proportional to your salary, if yours is low, you will never catch up to the market, regardless of your skills or potential promotions.
