Process

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks.

It starts with the recruiter round and later goes with the technical round. I have interviewed at Agility two times for 2 different roles during different time frames. During both times I experienced the interviewer not showing up. The first time it happened, I dropped an email to the recruiter and received an email after a week. We had an interview later, but it was very unprofessional.

The second time, the recruiter sent me a new invitation for an interview on a different day and time just 15 minutes before the interview time. I did not like the experience the first time and had a similar experience the second time. Not sure why they cannot improve.

Questions

The discussion was on the projects listed in the resume, followed by the presentation on how one would design an algorithm for humanoid robots.

This was from the view of the controller design. The problem statement for the presentation was given beforehand.

Cool robots can't make up for a mediocre workplace

Pros: You get to work on and around cool robots. The work is interesting and stimulating.

Cons: Leadership speaks with multiple POVs, and moves in lockstep. This creates frequent confusion when someone in leadership agrees to investigate an issue or take feedback and then never does it. Internal politics are everywhere. It feels like a much larger company than it is due to the speed of changes.

Cool robots can't make up for a mediocre workplace

Pros: You get to work on and around cool robots. The work is interesting and stimulating.

Cons: Leadership speaks with multiple POVs, and moves in lockstep. This creates frequent confusion when someone in leadership agrees to investigate an issue or take feedback and then never does it. Internal politics are everywhere. It feels like a much larger company than it is due to the speed of changes.

Pros: Agility Robotics is already one of the leaders in humanoid and general purpose robotics, and they have great ties to the research in these fields. Unlike lots of other robotics and AI companies, they don't rely on flashy marketing and instead let the robots' capabilities speak for themselves. Working for Agility is like being part of a growing family with a unified vision to change the economy of labor.

Cons: Unfortunately, Agility Robotics isn't located in a big city - Portland is about an hour and a half away as is Eugene. That being said, there are plenty of outdoorsy activities in and around the Willamette Valley area and the employees regularly engage in these together.
