I saw an opening for a role titled "Vancouver, Canada (relocation to Bangkok)". It was mentioned that the company offered a "competitive salary". As Agoda is a good company, I was interested.

After performing well in two rounds of interviews, I had to wait two weeks for a response. In the third week after the interview process, I was informed that the competitive salary was not actually competitive; it was 1/5th of my current salary (though Levels.fyi showed the opposite).

While Bangkok is cheaper than Vancouver, I was ready for a pay cut, but not this drastic.

A suggestion for Agoda: you should ask upfront about candidate expectations and what you can provide instead of wasting candidates' and interviewers' time.

If you are from the US or Canada, please ask about salary expectations beforehand. It will save about five weeks and some energy.

The interview process started with two rounds: a coding round and a system design round.
