I interviewed for a SWE position and was informed that the first round would involve a LeetCode medium question. I prepared accordingly. The recruiter was polite and appeared friendly.
The interview day, however, was upside down. Easily, this was one of the worst interview processes of the many I have taken over the years.
The interviewer seemed to have been "voluntold" to interview me. I felt as though this individual was more of a proctor for an exam than a human.
As soon as we started the video call, the interviewer said, "Ready for the question?" without turning on their camera. I mean, at least have the decency to introduce yourself, tell me what you do for the company, and talk a little about the role or the culture.
Nopes—instead, it was like a robot proctoring a LeetCode question. I was simply not expecting that.
The question they asked was easy, but a bunch of "on the fly" questions made me think that this individual, due to the nature of those questions, had likely just come right out of college.
I am not writing this review because I did not get the offer and therefore want to vent. I am writing this so that someone on the HR team starts to notice a pattern that is evolving in their interviewing procedure.
I'd also agree with what one of the other reviews mentioned—they appear to be fixated on a "certain type" of engineer. I got that vibe as well.
So, here is a tip for new interviewees: As much hype as this company has, they spent zilch training their engineers on interviewing skills. Sure, they are public and appear to be better positioned than other startups that are currently struggling, but I would think twice before joining this place.
Make sure you understand who your co-workers are going to be before you decide to join. Don't forget to look up a few individuals on LinkedIn to gauge the diversity of engineers there.
