Software Engineer (Internship) Interview Experience

Process

Expect multiple rounds of challenging (and interesting) problem-solving questions.

They are all coding questions, but the problems aren't strictly algorithms/data structures. Each involves more thinking/innovation than some more common questions you may have seen.

Airbnb expects you to write functional code, not just pseudocode or halfway functional code.

Additionally, you will need to interview with a non-engineer in a cross-functional interview to determine how well you will fit into the company culture/environment.

Questions

Write a solver for the Mastermind board game. This requires communicating with a server that accepts a peg configuration as input and provides the output that the Mastermind board game would give for that configuration.

Simulate pouring water over terrain. This involves determining where some amount of water would settle given the terrain and a point to pour from. The terrain is represented as a 1-D list of integers that represent the height of the terrain at each index.
