Process

Multiple recruiters reached out to me about interviewing with Amazon. One recruiter informed me that they had fully remote positions available and that relocation would not be required. Consequently, I began the online coding assessment for these positions, which took two hours. I passed the assessment without any issues.

After completing the assessment, the recruiter revealed that they did not have any remote positions in that department. They then sent me a list of other opportunities that did not interest me.

A week later, another Amazon recruiter contacted me about an open position. I reviewed the job description and found it somewhat more interesting, but it required experience developing a new system. As I lacked this experience, I informed the recruiter. They stated that was fine and mentioned I needed to take another online assessment, as the previous one was for SDE I. I completed this second two-hour assessment without problems.

Next, I proceeded to the final interview, which went well. The interviewer indicated they would provide next steps within a week. A week later, I reached out to the recruiter for an update but received no response. Two weeks later, there was still no response. Three weeks later, the recruiter asked again about my experience developing new systems. Upon confirming I did not have this experience, they responded that I could not be considered for the position.

A week later, a third recruiter contacted me about interviewing for an Amazon-affiliated company. I agreed, but expressed my hope that my interview process would be better than my recent one. The recruiter inquired about the timing of my previous interview and then informed me that I was on a "cool down" period due to having already interviewed with Amazon.

Overall, five hours of my time were wasted, with a mandatory hiring "cool down" imposed because a recruiter failed to listen initially.

Lessons learned: Amazon recruiters do not listen. The Amazon interview process is a waste of time. Amazon views interviewees as disposable.
