Pros: Lot of learning opportunities. Very intelligent co-workers. The scale of problems is so big; only a few companies have problems at such a large scale.

Cons: It's not a startup, and they keep saying frugality drives innovation, but we do not need to be frugal anymore. So, generally, we get away by adding a few hundred machines every time a scale issue comes up. Management forces SDE-II/SDE-III to be influential, but that creates a bad work environment. Senior engineers have to force their decisions on junior engineers to meet their goals. This works well until you are SDE-I, but as you become more experienced, you would probably like to understand why trade-offs you are making in your design/development are worse than suggested by some other senior engineer.

Pros: Flexible hours, smart and experienced teammates, lots of resources at your disposal, and it's easy to switch teams once you're in.

Cons: Current teams are small, which leads to frequent on-call. There are lots of services to own and maintain. Many have to be put on the back burner.

Pros: - Huge variety of products, projects, and locations. - Good opportunities for internal mobility. - Always hiring for something. - Stock awards of a currently-healthy stock. - Open to re-hiring if affected by layoffs.

Cons: On-call duties for engineers, possibly onerous depending on the team. Sometimes the company grows at a rapid pace, sometimes it rapidly downsizes with massive layoffs, even in seemingly "safe" orgs. Prefers to reward performance with stock rather than raises.
