Pros

You will be working side by side with the best professionals in your region. You'll learn a lot about industries, segments, computer science, languages, platforms, and technologies. Customers will respect you because you're on the top cloud company. People with competence will ask how to apply for a job.

Changing your role or relocating to your preferred country within AWS is 100% possible, so there are a lot of opportunities to work.

Cons

Work/life balance is hard, and may be impossible to accomplish. I've traveled 60 times in the year previous to the pandemic. Working right now at home is hard. Even having your time scheduled 100% for a customer, AWS asks you to spare time reviewing opportunities, doing presales jobs, hiring people, giving and receiving training. It's hard to adapt.

If you're single and have no plans to be married or have kids, you will love Amazon. For me (the opposite), eight hours by day isn't enough to be a top consultant.

Advice to Management

I agree with AWS values and principles. Doing separate salary negotiations and annual incentives based on results sounds fair and isn't a bad idea.

But it is unfair to have senior people with the same salary as non-senior engineers, or to have a teammate with your same experience doubling your salary because they won the hiring bet.
