Test Engineer Interview Experience - London, United Kingdom

Process

I received an email from their Technical Recruiter stating they would love to progress my application and asking for my availability for a first-stage phone call. About a week later, I asked the recruiter for an update. He said he was still waiting for confirmation, but I was provisionally booked in at a time outside the availability I had specified, less than two days from when the email was sent.

I accepted anyway but asked the recruiter to let me know when this date was confirmed.

The date arrived; there was no confirmation, but I did receive a call. I was asked standard questions by the hiring manager (e.g., "Why do you want to work for Apple?"), then technical questions from two members of the team. One asked me questions about APIs, and the other asked about Selenium.

It would have been nice if the recruiter had prepped me for this. In my experience, most first-stage phone calls involve behavioral, personality, and get-to-know-you questions, so I was wholly unprepared for the technical questions. I was also somewhat disappointed because Apple has an image of being a creative and dynamic company; I expected to be asked questions involving creative problem-solving, not questions based on rote memorization.
