Pros

Overall, this is a good company to work for, even if it occasionally falls short of its stated values.

  • Pay is decent for early career in mechanical development.
  • Says all the right things about work-life balance.
  • Three weeks PTO plus 13 paid holidays (if hired directly) (4 weeks PTO after 4 years).
  • Funding is typically not a barrier (or a consideration) to completing my projects, but I understand that this varies between different parts of the company.
  • Coworkers are pleasant.
  • Current WFH policy is reasonable.
  • Stable company with a long-term growth mindset. Major investments are happening in the area, and there are no signs of being impacted by tech layoffs yet.
Cons

Most people I know are working 5-10 hours of overtime per week due to tight deadlines (unpaid because it's salary), despite management claiming they don't want us to. The same management is setting the timelines.

Typical drivel about being benevolent corporate overlords.

Hiring and onboarding processes are dysfunctional.

Not very many people have more than 3 years at the company.

Advice to Management
  • Set realistic deadlines.
  • Take material steps towards our environmental initiatives instead of just talking.
  • Mind inflation (not an issue yet that I know of, but still).
  • Set realistic deadlines.
  • Set a good example if you're serious about people not working overtime.
  • Current WFH policy is good. Don't mess up a good thing.
  • Did I mention setting realistic deadlines?
