Pros

Due to the enormous size of the company, it is sometimes easy to hide behind the radar screen, so work is not usually too stressful. It will be great if you are near retirement or you don't want to sweat at your job. If your job is in the field of technology, you may be able to get your hands dirty with the latest technology at your employer's expense. Another good thing is that you got cheap landline phone service, 50% of iPhone monthly fee, and 50% off U-Verse TV.

Cons

It's difficult to get a promotion or change to different jobs. What I dreaded the most is that when your applications for other internal openings are turned down, you don't even get feedback on why you were turned down and what you need to work on. Also, because the company is so big, your responsibility can be very narrow, and it can be boring after a while. Although we have mandatory performance reviews throughout the year, we all realize that they don't mean anything, but we have to do them anyway to fulfill some policy. Everyone gets a "good job, well done," but it doesn't mean you'll get a promotion or even a pay raise. Can you believe that I have to write my review and have it approved by my supervisor? Do they expect me to give myself a bad review?

Advice to Management

Give real, useful feedback to employees so they know what they need to work on and progress in their careers.

We all know that we don't have every skill under the sun when we are hired. But many of us are willing to learn. Give us some tools, classes, or scholarships so we can go learn them.

For now, I think the company has adopted a policy that ongoing development is employees' own responsibility, and we shouldn't expect the company to help you.

(Yes, we do have a Tuition Plan to help pay $2,000 per year towards a degree. It is not so much if you want to pursue something like an MBA.)
