AT&T is a large company, and with that comes a multitude of opportunities and career paths. Overall, it’s a great place to settle in long term, provided you bring the proper mentality with you.
Focus on expanding your knowledge and expertise, stay agile and positive, and your career will be enjoyable and rewarding.
I’ve been here more than twenty years, and this industry has seen quite a bit of change. Keep an eye to the future, keep your skills relevant, and maintain your goals to keep pace with where telecom is heading, and you should enjoy your long and rewarding career here as well.
AT&T is a large company, and with that comes a multitude of ways to get lost in the crowd, or to borrow an industry term, become “retired in place”. This is not a career where complacency will be your friend.
You have to keep your eyes forward and skate to where the puck is going, not where it’s currently at.
If you’re not of the mindset that this is a career worth investing yourself in, it will be easy to settle in as just another employee ID number and lack fulfillment in your day-to-day duties. A career here needs to be treated like a spousal relationship: nurtured and proactively maintained. Otherwise, it will wither and you’ll become resentful of it.
