Process

I applied via the Atlassian website for multiple roles. After receiving rejection emails for a couple of openings, I was called for this particular role.

There were a total of 7 interviews: 4 technical and 3 non-technical.

  1. A Karat interview: This screening round checked my tech skills. Atlassian gives you two attempts to clear this round.
  2. Browser coding: I was asked to create a small app/component, with the output visible and interactive in a browser, followed by questions.
  3. JS coding: This focused on problem-solving. I could use vanilla JS or any other framework/library, though vanilla JS was recommended.
  4. System design: I was asked to create a High-Level Design (HLD) for an application.
  5. Values interview: This non-technical interview assessed my fit with Atlassian's values.
  6. Hiring Manager interview: This evaluated me overall, my learnings, and my experience.
  7. HR and offer discussion.

The recruiters and interviewers were all very helpful and cooperative. The sessions were interactive.

Questions

Karat Interview:

  • An image was provided with some conditions. I was asked to make the same template using HTML and CSS only.
  • Create a paginated list with React.
  • Theory questions on JS, React, and Networking.

Browser Coding:

  • Fetch data and display tasks and subtasks. Sort the tasks based on status. The solution should be scalable and performant. Components should be re-usable, and the file structure should be maintainable.
  • Theory questions on React.

JS Coding:

  • Fetch the data and cache the result. Store data in such a way that the call should not be made again. The question was about feature flags: fetch the feature flag value, store the result, and add a subscription method to flag value changes. I was asked to use vanilla JS to solve this.

System Design:

  • Design a system for a task app. Tasks can be in-progress, to-do, or done. Explain everything in detail.

Values & HM Round:

  • How to handle conflict?
  • Why do you want to join Atlassian?
  • What did you learn?
  • Behavioral questions.
