The recruiter sent an email asking to schedule a slot. I tried, but his calendar showed no available times. I emailed back asking for an update, but received no response. I checked again a week later and started seeing more available times. I emailed back to confirm, and he finally did, never acknowledging my first email.

During the phone interview, he had me walk through my entire experience. He asked what frameworks I'm currently building and using, which were all relevant to the position listed. He asked what I was looking for at Atlassian, and I mentioned everything from individual contributor work to a potential desire to shift to a managerial track down the line.

By the end, there was no time left for questions. He said, "I'm sorry I won't have any time to answer any questions of yours, but you'll most likely hear back from us in the next day or two."

I received an email 15 minutes later stating a rejection with no reasoning or feedback.

In reflection, I should have anticipated a lack of care and thoughtfulness. The recruiter showed early signs of being disengaged, vacant, and unavailable to empathize or care about the candidate experience. My impression of Atlassian as an organization is not this way. So I am very surprised at the lack of care and, quite frankly, rudeness exhibited by the recruiter. It could have been one bad apple, but you know how the saying goes.

I am less disappointed about the rejection than I am about the overall experience. I will probably never recommend or apply to Atlassian again.
